Our Story

Sara’s POV

It was August 2017, my first day of classes at Augie during my freshman year. I had to run across campus to make it in time for my French class and quickly came into the classroom, not paying attention to which seat I was taking or who was around me. After I got settled, I looked up, and across the room, I saw this super cute boy. My immediate thought was “Oh this will be a good semester”. Who would have thought this boy was going to be my husband one day?

It was an immediate crush, but being the socially awkward person I am, I was too nervous to talk to him. Every time we had to go around the room to do discussion questions, I had to ignore him because I always blushed so hard. I was convinced he noticed my awkwardness and blushing, so I never talked to him unless we were assigned as partners. Now knowing Erik, he definitely didn’t notice my blushing; in fact, he actually thought I hated him!

Flash forward to 2018, my sophomore year of college. I walked into my intermediate accounting class, and saw Erik there as well. I thought “Oh great, another semester of me being awkward around this cute boy”. Erik actually reached out to me before class started and asked about how advanced French class was this year. We had a really nice conversation, and I think he realized I actually didn’t hate him. We then got randomly assigned into groups for a project during the semester, and guess who was in my group? The one and only Erik Rossing.

Later that week, Erik slid into my instagram DM’s pretending to be interested in our group project. I asked for his phone number so that it would be easier to talk about our project, and he sent me both his phone number and Snapchat (I know, Snapchat is cringey but it was still a thing then). And the rest is history! :)

Erik's POV

I first saw and met Sara in our Intermediate French class at Augie in the fall of 2017. We had French together that entire school year and we hardly said a word to each other. In fact, when we did speak to each other through speaking exercises within the classroom, the way she acted around me made me think she wanted nothing to do with me; however, years later I learned from her that she acted this way around me because she was trying not to blush and she didn't want me to see her clearly in case she was actually blushing whenever we had to do French speaking exercises together!

Fast-forward to September 2018, we are once again in the same class (Intermediate Accounting). In addition, we are even a part of the same group project for that class. So I get her phone number and snapchat info just in case I need extra ways to contact her regarding our group accounting project ;) Not much longer after that, everything fell into place and we have been together ever since. From starting our journey together in Sioux Falls in fall 2018, to experiencing a long-distance relationship together beginning in August 2019, to living together ever since June 2021: We have been there for each other every step of the journey, and we are excited to share this journey together for the rest of our lives :)
